Hey gorgeous, did you miss me? because i sure did miss yall.
its been a while since we sat down for a chat but no worries those of us that have connected over on tiktok have seen that i have been trying with my vlogs over there. i strongly believe every creative gets that time when they start to re think their work and for me its been the past couple of months. that mixed with the blues of being and immigrant, juggling school and work.... boy it got to me but with the current state of affairs (cough cough ) i am a strong believer that we have to be grounded in community , love and self as a form of rebellion soo here i am back to my roots.... and i will not keep boring you with the obvious, so let us dive right into it.
living alone is exciting as it is terrifying.... the idea of having your own space filled with plants and fragrance sounds like a dream but the reality of being by yourself is nerve wrecking so how do you strike a balance ( of sorts).
its officially been a year and some days since i moved into my apartment , i remember the day like it was yesterday . i had spent way to much time online looking and on ground touring apartments looking for my next home. i remember getting a warning from my job as i would come in late because i scheduled my tours right before work.
one of the greatest things about living on your own is the idea of individuality.because now everything in your place reflects you and your interests. you can tell from the rugs and china the kind of person your host is. it is also important to note that your tastes will change from now and then so you dont have to have it all figured out but below are a few chit codes for a smooth ride.
1.buy all your essentials prior to moving.
it makes everything much more easier, make lists of things you are using in your day to day and start purchasing them prior.
2.try to know your neighbours
this one is tricky and be caucious depending on where you are but the fact that you live alone its important that the people closets to you foster some sort of relationship so that you (a) get more comfortable (b) get to know where to head incase anything arises.
3. develope routines
because you are on your own its very easy to forget to do some thing, there where times i forgot to turn the lock because i am used to having someone else double check it before we sleep. routines helps you go through the basics and a good idea of what to add in there are checking on your locks, stoves and sockets.
4. share your location with someone
the amount of times i have made sure my location was on before i left my house for a night out are numberless,i always make sure someone knows where i am headed to (sometimes i do so by posting on my private stories)
5.prepare a head of the seasons
if you live in an area that gets very strong winds,or floods or even fires during a specific period of time you have to know that you are no exception. try to have some measures taken and this is where meeting your neighbours comes into play. they have probably known and tried a few tricks and they may be able and willing to share.
6.try to set up an emergency / savings account
i know it is a priviledge with the current economic state with many living pay check to paycheck but if you can set up an account with funds you never touch until you really have to.
7.yes they were right, cooking is better than eating out.
you heard me.
8.dont forget to change your address on all your important documents so that you never miss any of your mail and important documentation
9, do not and i repeat do not just share your address with anyone or online, that is a great security concern. protect it as much as you can
10. have fun with it,yes sometimes you will be up an night feeling lonely but others you are setting up a rack for your new plants or trying a new recipe with your new appliance.... just have fun with it and go with the flow..
